Andy,

I thought I’d drop you a note that might interest you. I don’t know if you remember, but I told you when I ordered my B-2 that I was waiting to cut bass tracks for a studio project with my band, and wanted to use the new cab. I got it, and began recording. Was able to get an absolutely unreal tone on tape almost immediately. So good, in fact, that it created extra work for me…I’d done another cd project with a singer/songwriter just prior to getting my B-2, and all my tracks were pretty much in the can, and on the way to mixdown (with what I THOUGHT was a great tone, at the time). The guy came by the studio while I was working on my band project and flipped out when he heard the difference in my tone going to tape…asked me to re-cut all my tracks using the new gear…he’s going to pay me AGAIN… In fact, everyone that’s heard this thing is kind of staggered! By golly, I may not be the greatest bassist around, but I sound damn good…

In case the info would come in handy, should someone ask how your cabs perform in the studio, here’s what I used:

Tobias Killer-B 6-string bass, Steinberger XL2 4-string bass, ’79 P-bass
Ampeg SVT III Pro amp…eq’s pretty much flat (450 watts, about 3/4 up)
Acme B-2 cab, both attenuators full up…miked with an AKG D-112 about a foot away from the cabinet front, just above the screw/washer in center of grill.

Ran directly into a tube preamp and into the ADAT…bypassed mixer completely…no eq needed at all.

Let me add, too, that I used probably 10 different speaker/amp/direct line variations to get my best tone on my tracks previously, and this simple rig makes them all sound really one-dimensional.

If you ever need testimonials or references, I’m available to send anybody all the warm fuzzys you want…feel free to have anyone email me!
